Scottsboro Visit

Parker and I headed north last week for a visit to Scottsboro.  We traveled during nap time, so sweet baby looked like this most of the trip:

We had a great visit with everyone.  It is always nice to go visit, and I probably don't do it often enough.  Here are a few pictures from our trip. (And like our trip to the beach, I didn't take enough pics of people... and all of these are from my phone. Oops!)

Nineteen Months

* Parker's vocabulary has absolutely blossomed in the last month!  She talks ALL the time.  We were in Scottsboro this weekend, and she came home saying yellow (lo), block (bock), big (bi), car (ca).  I'm amazed at how much she takes in.
* She does amazingly well following instructions (when she wants to!).  She will "get her chair ready" for dinner by pulling the straps back.  She will put up dishes or laundry.  She will sometimes help clean up her toys.  We have been to Academy a few times to get things for Bentley and let her walk and she has done really well staying with us, holding our hands and just following our directions!
* Parker has to check on Bentley first thing in the morning and knocks on the window until he comes and she can see him.  She also says "bye bye" to him at night before going to bed.  It's pretty sweet.  But she is still not sure about petting him. She likes him the best through the glass.
* We have started taking Parker and Bentley for walks after dinner when it's not too hot or rainy.  She does not let him out of her sight.  She almost stands up in the stroller if Bentley and Drew get too far behind us.

* Parker just cut her fourth and final one-year molar.  The other three came in at the same time, but let me tell you this one wreaked more havoc on our little one than the other three.
* We had to buy a new pair of shoes today.  When I bought her sandals in April, I bought a size bigger than what she needed at the time and we have outgrown those already!
* Speaking of shoes, Parker is a bit obsessed with shoes these days. If there is a pair of shoes around that are not on someone's feet, she will put them on and wear them.  It is hilarious to see her trying to walk in Drew's big flip flops!
* Parker loves singing and dancing.  She loves the Itsy Bitsy Spider and If You're Happy and You Know It.  She will dance to just about anything that has a beat.  In fact, when we were on our way to Scottsboro last Friday she was asleep in the car.  I got stuck at a red light and she kind of woke up.  I looked in the mirror and she was dancing.  I thought "great, not a good nap, at all".  As soon as I started driving again she was back out!

Beach Days 5, 6, & 7

Friday morning it stormed. We were supposed to head down to 30-A to visit the Esslinger's that evening, but we bumped our plans back to lunch.  It took them almost 2 hours to get into Destin from where they were staying, so lunch did not happen, but they did stop by to visit for a little while.  Parker was not very sure about sharing her baby with the Esslinger boys....

a quick kiss

Saturday, the guys went fishing.  After Parker's nap, we headed over to the beach so that Drew could see the new beach bum....

foggy camera :(... I love this picture!

so excited to play in the water!
On Sunday, we hung out at the pool.  Parker had fun swimming, blowing bubbles, jumping in, and just floating around with Daddy and Trey.

Beach Day 4

I don't know what was special about day 4 at the beach, but on that day Parker decided she loved the water and would tolerate the sand on her feet.  My mom stopped by for the morning, and Drew had gone to play golf.  I did the same thing I had done on the other days, approaching the shore slowly.  This morning, she decided that she would let me put her feet in the water....and the rest is history!  Parker played so hard in the surf.  She ran up and down the sand chasing the waves and was exhausted by lunch time!!

this isn't so bad...

okay, i really like this...

we had a diaper full of sand!

even liked the wave splashing her in the face!

Beach Days 1, 2 & 3

We had a great week at the beach with Drew's family.  I did not take nearly enough pictures of all the fun we had, or the people who were with us.  We got to see everyone but Riley during the week!

After our disaster at the beach last time, I picked up a baby pool to take with us.  I was hopeful that Parker would be okay in the baby pool on the beach...and she was.  Parker did not like the sand....at all... but she did enjoy playing in the baby pool.

this isn't so bad in the pool!

On Wednesday, we tried putting her on a beach towel to see if she would play in the sand, and she wouldn't.  Each time her hand or foot touched the sand, we had to rinse it in her bucket of water, so back into the pool we went.

That night, we had plans of letting Parker stay up late to watch the fireworks.  After dinner, we played around the condo.  We went swinging, watched daddy ride a bike and played with a balloon... but we just could not hold out until it was dark enough for fireworks.  About 15 minutes before they started we had to go to bed.... oh well, there is always next year!

Meet Bentley

For anyone who really knows me, this will come as quite a shock... but meet Bentley!

Yep, that's right... we got a dog!
Bentley is a two year old Boykin spaniel.  His previous owner was killed in a boating accident and through a series of events, he ended up at the McKinnon's house and then at ours!
We were a little unsure how Parker would do with him, but she has done very well.  Constantly checking on him, waving to him through the window and wanting to feed him treats!
